1. Map presented that would look rather different if it went back oh, say, 150 years.
2. Privileged young woman criticizes political leader for getting expensive haircut while getting expensive haircut, pretends to read book.
3. Hugh Hewitt features image of man who couldn't be bothered to serve in US military Photoshopped into group shot with man who did serve and got shit on for it.

If the map went back 150 years it would show 100 years of colonialism, and so be all yellow. I'm afraid I'm missing your point.
That's exactly my point. The map is being linked by some right-wing blogs with the suggestion that it shows how Africa has done much worse under colonialism, but it in fact does no such thing.
Er, much worse AFTER colonialism, I mean.
h, I see. Could you let me know which blogs? My incoming links record doesn't work that well and I'm moderately intrigued (and a bit horrified) at the idea of fuelling the right-wing blogosphere...
um, i meant "ah", not "h".
Hullo! Just thought I'd let you know in case you don't see, we've updated the chart you mention below to factor in population. You can now see just what proportion of Africans were living under democracy, dictatorship etc. at any time. It's at:
http://brasstacks.org.uk/africa/blog/2007/08/23/african-history-in-ten-seconds-new-and-improved/
Thanks! Rav
If the link doesn't work just find the chart at www.brasstacks.org.uk/africa, thanks!
May we have a map showing what percentage of Americans are currently living under a democracy, dictatorship, or oligarchy, please?
Thank You.
